Der VfB will Motor einer ganzen Region sein und mit seiner Stiftung einen wichtigen Beitrag zu einer offenen Gesellschaft leisten, die ein zukunftsfähiges, nachhaltiges Miteinander und menschenwürdiges Arbeiten ermöglicht. Bildung und lebenslanges Lernen sind dabei wichtige Säulen. Zu den geförderten Projekten gehören zum Beispiel das Projekt für inklusive Fußballförderung (PFIFF), eine Bildungsrallye für Schulen und Vereine, die Kooperation mit der Nachsorgeklinik Tannheim, die Unterstützung der Vesperkirche Stuttgart sowie die gesunde Ernährung in Kindertagesstätten und Projekte für ältere Menschen mit kognitiven Einschränkungen.
